Summer is here

Ok it's 10 minutes to 12 and almost 85 degrees out. I've weeded the veggie garden and spread out some soil over my back yard (which is primarily sand) *sigh* but the good news is, we're getting sod put down in a few weeks! TFG for that!!! Now it's time to start planning a small above ground pool to go beside the house where we won't be putting down sod because eventually we plan to either have a patio or have the deck wrap around to the back. Either way I want that damn pool before the 4th of july this year because by god that is the HOTTEST day of the summer around here. I think it's mainly because we sit in the swealtering heat starting at 8 am for the parade, then we watch that for 3 hours (because we have the biggest celebration in the state crammed into this tiny town and every political rival wanting to be re-elected will be in it, and as many fire companies, high school bands, every Sudan in the state and some from SC as well and a half a million clowns etc... it never ends. The street fair is all week long, beach music on the water fron, dancing in the streets, live bands and it will finally end the night of the 4th (unless it's a Sunday, then we prolong it into a Monday because GOD forbid we mess up church services) but anyway so on the night of the 4th we have a HUGE fireworks display that last 30 minutes and takes you 2 hours to get home (and you only live 15 minutes away) and that is because EVERY tourist in the vacinity of about 2 hours away will drive here to spend the entire day and evening just so they can experience the "Small town-old fashion 4th of july festivities of Southport NC" Guess what... it hasn't been a small town festival in over 10 years. Locals go to it about every other year - just to remind ourselves why we don't go EVERY year. Instead we go to SC and buy all the illegal fireworks we can afford and then have a HUGE bar-b-q at home with friends and family and everyone brings their fireworks, we roast clams, oysters, brats, chicken and pig and swim, and get drunk.

I love the 4th of July.

Oh, I'm thinking of applying for Wal-Mart again - that way I'll have more to bitch about =)

LOL
